When we left Seattle, we decided
to give our friends one last chance to see the boat. Being all
the way across the 6 mile wide Puget Sound meant that no one
ever visited, so we brought the boat to them. We got to Bell
Harbor on the Seattle waterfront in the early afternoon and
hung out in the blissful sunshine. |

Shortly after we moored up in Bell
Harbor, we discovered that today was the first day of Seafair,
the annual military takeover of Seattle. In honor of this momentus
occasion, we hoisted our Black Ball ensign. |

Something we miss - such an amazing
variety of life living right up at the city waterfront. The
California coast doesn't boast the same bright beauty. |

By the end of the day we proved
(once again) that wooden boats always make any dock better looking...

to Lopez |
|
Lopez Island was our first stop
on our exploration of the San Juan Islands. We thought we found
a snug little harbor, and part of the reason we were right was
that the guidebook didn't say much about it. We had fewer neighbors
here than at any other anchorage. |

Lopez was also a great anchorage
for the perfect view of Mount Baker. Seattlites become accustomed
to large mountains nearby. I think it made me feel more at home. |

Down in Doe Bay |

Doe Bay is where we got married,
and our dream was to have the ceremony and sail off into the
sunset. We didn't get the boat in time for that, but we did
get back on this trip. |

Not just any deck, of course. This
is the deck we were married on. Family and friends trekked to
Orcas Island to stay in rudimentary cabins at the Doe Bay resort.
The hot tubs and saunas probably provided some of the motivation. |
