The hull of the SVSN was built in 1969 by Far East Yachts in Japan. It was shipped to Southern California and finished, then launched in 1971 by Dr. Noel D Drury of 49 Dudley, Venice, CA. He had the boat for 5 years. The next owners were Gene and Jan Auginbaugh, and we still have some records from that time. They lived aboard for 12 of the 14 years that they owned the boat (1976-1990). The Auginbaughs sold the boat in 1990 to Kent Penfield, who kept pretty good records as well. He also wrote an "Everything you need to know" document that is good historical information though many of the systems have changed. He sailed the boat to Seattle, then got stationed somewhere inland, as can happen to military men. Though Kent Penfield loved the boat, he sold it in 1994 to John Baxter, who sailed it around the Puget Sound, but not farther, with his father and a bevy of young women, some of whom he calls "fiances". The records cut off pretty abruptly, so we don't know why he sold the boat. We do know that the next owner was a total pill. His name is Ray Hunter, and he was a 20 year Navy E4 who managed to get his 6 Pac captain's license upon retirement. He pushed that captain thing really hard, but after 20 years enlisted, who wouldn't? He, rather ungallantly, blaimed the need to sell the boat on his wife's fight with cancer. Judging from the neglect, he probably also didn't have an inclination to do maintenance on the boat. When we bought the SVSN, she needed a whole bunch of work done immediately, most of which we took care of. I'd like to think that the next owners will love this boat and treasure her for many years.
