The fact of the matter is, we have a very picturesque life and this gallery page is just another way for us to show that off!

Enjoy!

On our way to to Ko' Olina Hawaii on the Island of Oahu just North of the dreaded Alanuihaha channel between the Islands of Maui and Hawaii. We were hammered for 14 hours strait in that channel but once we made
the lee of Maui it was "cocktails in the cockpit" and tea time on the fore deck...

We made the Sunrise on South Point Hawaii (the southern most point in the United States) on Easter morning and headed North from that point on.

...Just beautiful!

At the Northern Western most point of the Big Island of Hawaii on March 16th 2007.

The Ocean Washes the Lava on the south coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.

The early morning dew at the Akaka Falls Rainforest...

On the windword side of Paradise.

Day 19 our last sunset at sea in the year 2006...

...Day 17 on the 0400 to 0800 shift just after 7 bells.

A cool/sexy cockpit bath south of the Tropic of Cancer...

We celibrated our 10th anaversary with a cake that Dena baked at sea (no small feet)!

Flying our Ginaker in the Duldrums 10/06.

... believe it or not, that was our only injury!

On the 6th day of our 9 days of storms at sea I busted my head on the companion-way hatch...

9 days of double reefed main (only!) and 15-18 foot seas!

Right outside of the Gate on a heading 140 degrees SxSW...

This last summer we got to spend with an old friend, Fritz-the-Chat...

The perfect predator...

Another perfect mixture of Goofy and Grace...

One last look at Aquatic Park 09/06...

Alkatraz Island just before we left...

March 2006

For my 42nd birthday we returned to one of my favorite places in the world: Brentwood Bay, inside the Saanich peninsula on Vancouver Island, B.C.

We rented a canoe and rowed all the way up into Tod Inlet behind Buchart Gardens. The weather was spectacular for the duration of our stay, so much so, we didn't even mind the gentle mist from the (photo above) on coming squall.

At the begining of 2006,

This old long distance traveler was a resident at the Punalu'u beach the day we were there.

we flew to the beautiful island of Hawai'i for a much needed vacation!

The Keck obsevatory is like a giant set of Binoculars looking at the heavens...

The Keck Observatory on top of Mauna Kea.

The sun coming through the clouds on the South East slopes of Mauna Loa

...And the choirboys sing, "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!"

The day turned out to be totally perfect. The squall passed over us and the sun came out in all it's glory.

On our first San Francisco Bay cruise of 2006 we saw this big ketch heading in to a squall coming over Angel Island.

Once your out his gate you turn left and...

I don't know what it is about this bridge that makes me feel that something really big is about to happen...

We lowered the Faralon Islands astern at about 6pm on the 5th of September, next stop Monterrey, Calif!

...It could be this (below) on the other side of the (above bridge) that makes it so humbling!

The Great Nothing...

We got underway (Dena, Rae, and James) at a little after 9:00am and the weather was a total celebration! We passed in front of the Golden Gate with a slack tide and a 15 knot breeze that shot us through Racoon Strait at 6 knots. Before the tide turned around we were lee of Angel Island and played the tide off of the wind all the way back to the Oakland inner harbor before 3:00pm. It was the most perfect sailing day we have yet to have on our adventures in the San Francisco Bay...

Our new moorings in Oakland, Calif.

...So long and thanks for all the wind S.F. Marina, we'll see you soon we're sure! 06/04/05

They don't strike the sails until they absolutely have to!

The Wednesday night Knarr Class Sloop races from the St .Francis Yacht Club and the San Francisco Marina are just awesome to watch as they come back to port at sunset.

This is the very last picture I (James Lane) shot at the San Francisco marina in May of 2005. I do not know this young sailor's name but let me tell you, she's a good one!

The real race happens after the big boaters are rafted up with a few beers in 'em...

The young regatta is fired up on the all too short run to the first up-wind turn.

Another perfect sunset under the Golden Gate.

Note the two antenna in the foreground on the bottom of the frame. A total distraction from a plastic destroyer that I never saw anyone on the entire time we lived there, the M.V. Nolove.

Packed in tight on the end slip with a beautiful offshore cruising rig from Canada, the S.V. Laila N. This boat was single-handed up from Mexico by our new friend (Captain) Chuck, a knowledgeable captain of a seaworthy boat. He's taking her (Laila N.) to her new home in Victoria, B.C. to run charter cruises all summer. We wish him Fair Winds and Following Seas on the uphill run from the San Francisco Bay to the Straight of Juan De Fuca. (I know, a very tall order!)

Update: Captain Chuck made it home to Victoria, B.C. in the later part of May 2005 after over 5,000 nautical miles of single-handed sailing aboard Laila N. Welcome home, Captain!

Captain Chuck brought it to our attention that while in close quarters it's best to leave the monitor rudder in the down position. We agreed with him and started doing it that way the day he left for home.

This shot also shows the dramatic weather contrast that we get here in the San Francisco Bay: To the west (abaft of the WF) we have the fog bank that S.F. is famous for and from the East is the sunrise and another perfect day in Berkeley. Photo by James Lane

Below, is our photo document of our cruise up the Delta of the Sacramento and the San Joaquin Rivers from April 1st to April 6th 2005, enjoy!

April Fools Day 2005, first day out and the weather is that San Francisco Bay Perfect!

Under the Bay Bridge on April 1st 2005 by J.Lane

We were the ones not stuck in traffic that day!

...I know I do!

I think I spend most of life being this cheesy.

...Turned out to be about a half hour after this shot was taken, winds at 25 knots so our anchor dragged us aground so we got to get our boat un-stuck in the dark and in the chop, after that we snuck in to Glen Cove and ran a-ground for the second time that night IN THE MARINA!!! (a first for us)

(What we thought was), the end of the day with the hook down in sheltered cove.

Day 2 (Suisun Bay, Sacto-River and Decker Island)

The Ship Graveyard is located at the entrance to Suisun Bay, it's a very spooky place.

It's also a very strange thing to drive a full keel sailboat through farm country!

On a mooring buoy in the inside slew of Decker Island.

Another crazy looking California anchorage.

A beautiful sunset before a torturous row against a flooding tide and a stiff breeze!

Day 3 (Motor/Sailing up two strong rivers to a Pirates Lair).

As you come up on this very cool little neighborhood on the San Joaquin River it really does look like this ship is sitting in the grass!

We twisted our way through grassy marsh country under a perfect balance of Jib and engine. We motor-sailed because of the stiff Sou-Easter breeze coming off the San Joaquin Valley and the 4 knots ebb that seemed to last all day. Just another passed test for our equipment.

Safe and sound on the dock at the Pirates Lair.

Day 4/5 (Back down the river and into a storm! On Moorings at Angle Island)

Under the Carquenez Bridge on the way back home.

Feral is beautiful but often untouchable. That's ok I think!

The crazy cats of Grand Marina 3/14/2005

We went to a cool little park in Alameda on the 7th of March to unwind and lay in the warm damp grass.

Dena my love!!!

The P.B.-n- Jay's were better served from our "70's Style" Pic-Nick set given to us by our friend and Dena's co-worker Asia Sage.
